German Potato Pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer)

Instructions

  1. Grate the potatoes and onion using a grater.
  2. Place the grated mixture in a clean cloth and squeeze out excess liquid.
  3. In a bowl, combine the potatoes, onion, egg, flour, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.
  5. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the mixture and flatten it in the pan to form a pancake.
  6. Fry for 3–4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving Suggestions

Serve hot with:

  • Applesauce (traditional German style)
  • Sour cream
  • Fresh herbs or yogurt dip
