Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions

Juicy Italian sausage tossed with sweet bell peppers and caramelized onions — bold, colorful, and packed with flavor. Serve it in a hoagie roll, over pasta, or with crusty bread!


📝 Ingredients

  • 1½ lbs (700 g) Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 bell peppers (mixed colors), sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon dried basil
  • Optional: ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Optional: ½ cup marinara sauce

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Brown the Sausage

Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add sausages and cook until browned on all sides (about 8–10 minutes).
Remove and set aside.


2️⃣ Cook the Peppers & Onions

In the same pan, add remaining oil.
Sauté onions and peppers for 6–8 minutes until soft and slightly caramelized.
Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more.


3️⃣ Combine

Slice the browned sausages (or leave whole) and return to the pan.
Season with salt, pepper, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes.
Add marinara if desired.
Simmer for 5–10 minutes until everything is tender and flavorful.
